Transportation Secretary Supports Gas Tax Increase

According to the Williamsport Sun Gazette PA Transpiration Secretary Barry Schoch suggested raising the state fuel tax. He said the last time the tax increased was in 1997. Since gas prices have risen, less people are buying gas so less money is going to the state for infrastructure maintenance. He also said he would want to change license and registration fees in accordance with inflation. These same suggestions came out the Governor's Transportation Funding Commission.

 

Take Over Bill Signed

Yesterday Gov. Corbett signed legislation that would allow the state to declare a state of financial emergency in Harrisburg and appoint a receiver to run the city's finances. The bill still gives the city another 30 days to attempt to create a fiscal recovery plan before the take-over happens.

 

J. Evans Will Not Run for Re-Election 

The Meadville Tribune reported that state Representative John Evans announced he will not run for re-election in 2012. He represents parts of Erie and Crawford counties
