Perzel Pleads Guilty

As the Bonusgate case continues, former Speaker of the House John Perzel pled guilty on Wednesday to conflict of interest and conspiracy and theft charges centered around taxpayer money used for computer technology for campaigns. He pled guilty to 8 of the 82 counts he was charged with. According to the Patriot News, Perzel is likely to face jail time and the forfeiture of his $85,000 a year pension.


Poll Shows Residents Favor Gas Tax

This week a poll from Franklin and Marshall College was released stating that Pennsylvanians favor a tax on the natural gas industry. With 525 adults polled, 65% said they favor taxation on companies that extract and sell natural gas. 66% say they have a favorable view of the industry. 72% said they oppose opening more forest land for drilling. As Governor Corbett continues to consider the information provided to him by his task force on the issue, the legislature may continue the discussion on taxation later this month.
