Gov.Makes Last Cabinet Nomination

Yesterday Governor Tom Corbett nominated Julia K. Hearthway as the Secretary of Labor and Industry. At this point the Governor has made nominations for all 22 cabinet positions. Ms. Hearthway has worked as a state prosecutor in Montgomery County and in the PA Attorney General's office where she managed the insurance fraud section and served as chairwoman of the Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority. Ms. Hearthway, 54, is from Pottstown, PA.


PA Still Ranked High for Bad Bridges

According to a report released by Transportation for America, Pennsylvania ranks as a leader for bad bridges with 5,906 structurally deficient bridges. As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune Review yesterday, Gov. Tom Corbett on Wednesday said he would consider using proceeds from selling state liquor stores to fix the crumbling structures. Since stimulus funding is no longer available, the PennDOT budget will drop significantly this year and next.
