PA Congressmen Introduce Fairness in Medicare Bidding Act
Reps. Glenn Thompson (R-Centre) and Jason Altmire (D-Allegheny) announced  H.R. 1041 this week, or also known as the Fairness in Medicare Bidding Act. This piece of legislation would serve to repeal the current bidding program which was created in 2003.  The Congressmen said this legislation is necessary because the current system, known as the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies competitive bidding program, pushes smaller providers out of competition, thereby compromising the quality of care and products that are being offered.
EPA Proposes New Stands To Reduce Coal-Fired Plants Toxins
Also this week, the EPA announced new proposed standards that would significantly reduce the amount of mercury and other toxic chemicals released by the nation's coal-fired power plants. These new plans would potentially eliminate thousands of asthma cases, heart attacks, and premature deaths and support nearly 40,000 jobs, EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson said. However the industry has called the proposed regulations costly.
