Corbett lead expands to 11 percent

A new Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll has Tom Corbett leading Dan Onorato 11 percent, with Corbett retaining 47 percent to 36 percent of likely voters. Over the last week both candidates have lashed out at each other, releasing attack advertisements. Polls show an approval rating of 48 percent for Corbett and 38 percent for Onorato.

Republicans are also leading in the US Senate race as well. Pat Toomey currently holds a 7 percent, 45 percent to 38 percent, lead over Joe Sestak.

Latest unemployment report released

The loss of jobs reported last month is staggering, according to the latest unemployment report released by the US Labor Department. A loss of 95,000 non-farm jobs was reported for September. Most of those included temporary census workers and layoff by struggling local governments.

The loss was much greater than economists had predicted; which they report means that any forward motion towards recovery seems to be dropping off. Economists also point to this slowing down as a sign that the remainder of the year is likely to be just as slow.
