On Wednesday the Pennsylvania House passed SB 1155, which would create a 39 cent severance tax on each cubic foot of gas extracted in the state. While House Majority Leader Todd Eachus said the bill is a starting point for discussion between the four caucuses, Senate President Joe Scarnati said the Senate Republicans do not agree on the language and that the bill may even be unconstitutional. Discussion is set to continue between House and Senate leadership on the tax rate and other issues associated with drilling including the distribution of the tax revenue.
Yet Another Poll On U.S. Senate & Guv Races
According to a poll conducted by Suffolk University’s Polling Research Center, Republican Pat Toomey holds a five-point advantage (45% to 40%) over Democrat Joe Sestak, with 13% of voters undecided.
In the gubernatorial race, Republican Tom Corbett leads Democrat Dan Onorato, 47% to 40%, with 12 percent of voters yet to decide. Additionally, current PA Attorney General Corbett is viewed favorably by 41% of respondents and unfavorably by 24%. while 34% view Onorato favorably and 29% unfavorably.
The poll was conducted between September 23 and September 27 and surveyed 500 likely voters in Pennsylvania.
